Alibaba's DAMO Academy has unveiled ElementsClaw, an AI agent that discovered four previously unknown superconducting materials after screening 2.4 million crystal structures in just 28 GPU hours.
The system narrowed its search to 68,000 promising candidates, with 4 ultimately synthesized and experimentally confirmed as superconductors.
The AI combines a 1 billion parameter materials foundation model trained on 125 million molecular and crystal structures with an autonomous research agent capable of reading scientific literature, evaluating synthesis feasibility, and planning discovery workflows.
